HONOLULU, HI – The Hawaii community and triathlon family lost Clifford Meredith Rigsbee on June 16, 2016 from injuries he sustained during a water rescue exercise. We dedicated last year’s event to Cliff, one of our committee family members. Cliff was a 21-year HFD veteran well known for his inspiration and coaching as a firefighter and a triathlete. Cliff participated in 14 Tinman Triathlons from 1989 through 2004, and won the event in 1991 and 1992 with his best time of 1:40:11 in 1991. Subsequently we were lucky enough to have him join the race committee as our resident advisor whom we depended on to help organize our Tinman Triathlon. We truly miss his guidance as well as his sense of humor and loyalty.

Cliff was an integral part of Hawaii’s triathlon community for 35 years as a competitor, a volunteer and race coach. He was an elite and age group winner of the Tinman Triathlon, Ironman Triathlon, as well as many other national and international triathlons.

It is our heartfelt wish to rename the event as Cliff Rigsbee Tinman Triathlon this year!

We know he will be watching over us!

A water drinking fountain at Operation Red Wings Medal of Honor Park (also known as Kahala Triangle Park) near Diamond Head – a spot wellknown to Hawaii’s athletic community – will be dedicated by his friends and family in memory of Cliff Rigsbee.

SUNDAY, JULY 23, 2017 AT 5:45 A.M. HST

The Cliff Rigsbee Tinman Triathlon 2017 event will consist of a 750-meter swim; 40-kilometer bike course; and a 10-kilometer run which begins and ends at Kapiolani Regional Park.
